BCU Moderate Water Endorsement
This award is designed for BCU Coaches who hold a 4* leader award and wish to introduce paddlers to the moderate water environment.
This is a great award to take your Level two coaching skills into a more dynamic environment. It also allows you register to become a three star assessor in the chosen discipline.
We run this course as a one day training, then one day assessment – take a look at the prerequisites below, if you have all the training ones in place you can do the training and assessment over two consecutive days – get in touch if you need advice.
This is Discipline Specific, we offer Open Canoe and White Water Kayak.
Prerequisites (for training):
Candidates will require the following prerequisites:
- BCU Moderate Water Registration (CR Form)
- BCU UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport
- BCU 4 Star Leader Award in the appropriate discipline
- Be 18 Years Old or Older
- Hold a recognised 8 hr first aid award
Prerequisites (for assessment):
Candidates will require the following prerequisites:
- Training completed
- A minimum of 10 logged coaching hours in the sheltered water environment post holding BCU UKCC Level 2
- A minimum of 20 leading hours in the specific moderate water environment, post holding 4 star. (In open canoe this is divided into 10 hours leading journeys on lakes/lochs in moderate water conditions and 10 hours on moving water).

Note on Accredited Prior Learning
Candidates seeking to access the Moderate Water Endorsement without holding the BCU UKCC Level 2 Award (e.g. old style Level 2 or 3 coaches) may apply for Accredited Prior Learning (APL) where they can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.
