The programme is a five step process:
- Core knowledge: valid standard course • advanced course • first aid experience
- Training skills: 5 day trainer • assignments • video assessment • external assessment
- Observation: observe foundation level course • logbook for recording attendance
- Supervision: Supervised training with registered trainer
- Registration: Recommendation by two registered trainers • independent trainer
The Content
The course is progressive, each session utilizes previous modules. Assignments are integrated throughout the course. The course includes:

- Presentation: presentation skills • communication • dealing with candidates • audiovisuals
- Teaching: teaching skills • lesson plans • learning outcomes • planning • assignments

- Video analysis: presentations • teaching • coaching • assessing • feedback • assignments
- Development: new developments • research • assignments • cpr
The Assessment
- The Instructor award is assessed by: observing training • observing assessing • oral • written assignments
The Candidates
- All candidates wishing to deliver the REC scheme must have completed a REC 2 day emergency course to understand the philosophy of REC, completed the advanced course and have an in-date HSE certificate for First Aid at Work.
The Qualification
To become a recognised REC trainer you must complete the following steps:
- Attend 5 day Instructor/Trainer course and complete all assignments given
- Observe a number of REC trainers
- Teach on first aid courses under the supervision of qualified REC trainers
- Submit written recommendations from REC trainers
- Submit teaching file
- Keep an up-to-date portfolio for continued professional development
- Complete or show evidence of QCF Level 3 & Level 4 qualifications in Teaching and Assessing
